FAQs

What is Vermicomposting?

Vermicomposting is the process of using worms (usually red wigglers) to break down food and cardboard waste into nutrient-rich compost, known as worm castings. It’s faster, cleaner, and more nutrient-dense than traditional composting and it’s completely natural and beneficial to soil.

What kind of Worms do you sell?

We sell Eisenia fetida, commonly known as red wigglers. They’re the best composting worms. Fast breeders, hungry eaters, and excellent at turning waste into nutrient-rich worm castings.

How many Worms do I need to start?

For a small home bin, 250g to 500g of worms is a good start. Larger systems may benefit from 1kg or more. If you’re not sure, start small, they multiply quickly under the right conditions.

How do I set up a Worm bin?

Setting up a worm bin is easy:

  • Add bedding, like shredded cardboard or coco coir (For the worms to live in)
  • Moisten it slightly
  • Introduce your composting worms
  • Feed them small amounts of food scraps (vegetables, egg shells, peels, coffee grounds, etc.)
  • Keep the bin in a cool, dark place and avoid overfeeding or adding meat, dairy, or oily foods.

You’ll get nutrient-rich vermicompost in just a few weeks!

How long does it take to make Compost vs. Vermicompost?

Traditional composting can take 6-12 months, depending on conditions. Vermicomposting is much faster. Under the right conditions, you can harvest worm castings in as little as 6–8 weeks.

Is vermicompost safe for plants and pets?

Yes! Our vermicompost is 100% organic, chemical-free, and safe for all types of plants. From houseplants and herbs to vegetables and flowers. It’s also non-toxic and safe for pets, though they probably won’t want to eat it (and we don’t recommend they try).

What can I feed my Worms?

Worms love fruit and veg scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags (no staples), eggshells, and small amounts of bread or grains. Avoid meat, dairy, citrus, onions, garlic, spicy foods, and anything greasy or processed. Especially if these items have not be pre-composted.

What’s the difference between Compost and Worm Castings?

Compost is decomposed organic matter. Worm castings (vermicompost) are a supercharged version. Processed through the worm’s digestive system. They contain more beneficial microbes, nutrients, and enzymes that dramatically improve soil and plant health.

What do I do with my finished Vermicompost?

Use it to feed houseplants, boost garden beds, enrich potting mix, or top-dress around trees and shrubs. A little goes a long way. It’s a natural fertiliser and soil enhancer

What happens to the waste you collect?

We collect food and cardboard waste from homes and businesses and process it through our vermicomposting systems. The result is high-quality compost that nourishes soil and helps close the loop, turning waste into life.

Can I buy Worms or Compost from you?

Yes! We sell composting worms, worm eggs, and nutrient-rich vermicompost. All delivered in home-compostable, worm-bin–safe packaging.

Do Worms escape the bin?

Not if they’re happy! If conditions are right (not too wet or dry, and no strong lights or smells), worms will stay put and quietly do their work. Think of them as your low-maintenance, soil-saving roommates.

Can your compost be used indoors?

Absolutely. It’s ideal for indoor plants and houseplants. Just use a small amount mixed into soil or as a top dressing. No smell, no chemicals, just healthy growth.

Do Worms smell or attract pests?

Not if managed properly. A healthy worm bin smells like damp earth. Avoid overfeeding, keep the bin covered, and skip meat or dairy to prevent pests and odours.
